Special guest host Mathew Blades talks with call Melanie Napoleon from he Shedd Aquarium.
The Shedd Aquarium’s Great Lakes conservation program is to raise public awareness of Great Lakes issues while also providing inspiration and opportunity for action. The program’s vision is a Great Lakes watershed that is healthy, well understood and internationally cherished.
The Great Lakes conservation program raises awareness of Great Lakes issues by integrating all the ways that Shedd Aquarium communicates with the public. These communication pathways include:
• The “Listen to your Lakes” awareness campaign and website
• Exhibits
• Educational programs
• Community outreach
• Proactive and reactive public relations opportunities
• Networking and collaborating with colleagues from governmental agencies and non-governmental organizations
The Great Lakes conservation program is evaluated for effectiveness and best practices by an outside evaluation firm. The logic model and region-wide surveys will allow us to improve our program as needed over time in order to achieve our mission to raise public awareness of Great Lakes issues while also providing inspiration and opportunity for action.
